The Vital Role of Dynamometers in Precision, Safety, and Performance
Dynamometers, or “dynos”, are used to indicate the load, tension or torque, depending on the application. Dynos have electronic readouts, dials or hand held readouts that show the load.
Most brands offer dials and indicators in both kilograms and pounds. Some offer in tons. Dillon offers in both pounds and kg.
As an example, some dynos that are measured by pounds can have units of measure of 1 pound, 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds, 25 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds, and even higher. The scale, in the context of dynamometers, is called “Resolution”. The high resolution (where the scale indicates loads by 50 or 100 pounds) makes it hard to get accurate readings for lower loads, but knowing whether your load is 442 pounds or 439 pounds may not matter to the end-user. Some dynos have resolutions as small as a fraction of a pound.
There are pluses and minuses to high and low resolution.
